Who is responsible

Your dive data stays yours

Your dives, your diver profile (name, age, certification), your profile picture and the photos of your certification cards are stored on your device, and — if you are signed in to iCloud — in your own private iCloud database.

That database belongs to your Apple account. It is what carries your logbook to a new phone. We have no access to it, and neither does anyone else: we cannot read your dives, your name, your photos, or where you dive. If you are not signed in to iCloud, everything simply stays on the device.

You can see whether syncing is on at any time in Profile → iCloud sync.

Anonymous usage data

Nuddi uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used — which screens people open, whether a dive gets logged, which quests get finished, and when something fails. It is what tells us which parts of the app are worth improving.

What is sent is deliberately shaped so it cannot describe you:

• Never the content you write. Dive site names, notes, buddy names, your diver name and your search terms never leave the device. A search reports the length of the query and how many results it returned — not the query.
• Counts and categories instead of values. How many species you have found, which band your dive count falls in (“10–49”), your certification level, the country code of a dive, whether a dive was at night.
• Stable identifiers for content, not for people. A quest is reported by its slug, a species by its catalogue id.
• Failures. When something fails to save or load we report which operation failed and a coarse reason (“storage unavailable”, “network unavailable”), never the error text.

Google Analytics for Firebase also collects, on its own, a pseudonymous app instance identifier and basic technical information about the app and device (model, operating system version, app version, language, and an approximate region derived from the network address). It does not collect the Advertising Identifier (IDFA): Nuddi links the version of the SDK that cannot access it.

This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across other companies’ apps or websites. It is never sold, and it is not shared with data brokers. Google processes it on our behalf; see Google’s privacy policy and how Firebase uses data.

The species and quest catalogues

Nuddi periodically downloads new species and quests from our Cloud Firestore database, so the atlas and the quest ladder can grow without a new release. These are downloads only — public content going one way. Nothing about you or your dives is uploaded, and the request carries no identifier of yours beyond the network address any download needs.

Photos

If you choose a profile picture or photograph a certification card, the app receives only the image you picked, through Apple’s photo picker. Nuddi has no access to the rest of your photo library, and the images go to the same place as the rest of your data: your device and your private iCloud database.

Deleting your data

• Your dives: Profile → Delete all dives removes every dive from the device and from your iCloud database.
• Everything: delete the app. To also remove what is in iCloud, use Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on your device.
• The usage data: it is anonymous and not tied to an identity, so there is no record of “yours” to retrieve. If you want the app to stop reporting it entirely, write to nuddiapp@gmail.com and we will tell you where that stands in the current version.

Children

Nuddi is not directed at children under 13 and collects nothing that would identify one.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the version in the app’s listing is updated at the same time.
